A cool, dark, and clean bedroom is the optimal sleeping environment. We also suggest trying to use a white noise machine, like an electric fan, to create relaxing background noise while providing cool air.

Remove electronic devices from the bedroom. Blue light is known to reduce the production of melatonin, the chemical that helps us sleep. Our psychiatrist in Minnesota also suggests not using gadgets at least an hour before bed.

Furthermore, avoid large meals, caffeine, and alcohol before bedtime. Eating before bed can cause the body’s metabolism to slow. Lastly, being physically active during the day can help you fall asleep more easily at night. This also means not sleeping during the day. Taking in as much daylight regularizes your internal clock, too.
